GAZETTEER · THE SERED SPUR

The Last Banner Stone

A lone standing stone on the highest grass bench where House Vandahl's first lord planted his banner — the iron socket is still there, rusted, and the view from it shows the whole Vale and the smoke of Valenfeld.

The first Vandahl lord chose this high bench deliberately: you could see every approach, every rival road, every seam of the vale in one sweep. The banner blew away a hundred years ago; the socket rusted to the stone in a decade and neither has moved since. The Marrow Lances sign their contracts here when they want a witness that isn't wall or ceiling — the open sky and the rusted socket are an honest enough court for steel-work. The Broken Lances use it as a dead-drop.
