GAZETTEER · THE SERED SPUR
Stocktarn Shore
The reed-ringed upland tarn at the heart of the largest hollow — watering-troughs, a sunken bell-tower's tip breaking the surface, serene by day and the place the Drown lies under.
Stocktarn is the Spur's only standing water above the Cleave. The watering-troughs are old and sound; the shepherds bring their flocks here in the morning and do not linger past midday. The bell-tower of the drowned steading-chapel breaks the surface a dozen strides from the reeds — easy to mistake for a mossy pillar until you realise the stone is cut. On windless nights, the Hollowfold shepherds say the bell rings. They are no longer certain this is impossible.
