GAZETTEER · THE EASTERN CRAGS
The Legion's Mile
The straight, cut stretch of old Imperial road below the Imperial Reach, where the paving survives — the only place in the Crags you can see a horizon unbroken by mesa, and the wind runs the whole length of it singing.
One mile of flagged road, the best stonework the Imperium left in the Eastern Crags — wide enough for a column of eight abreast, guttered on both sides, and as flat as the surveyors could make it. The mesas pull back here and give the road a straight line the builders clearly needed for the march. It is also, in consequence, the most exposed ground on the barrow road: no shelter, the wind has a runway the full mile, and a cliff-stalker on the western rim can see you the whole way before you see it. The Legion's Mile is the clearest walking in the Crags and the most honest about what finds you here.
