The Under-Sky Reading Stone
A flat white stone with a pinprick of gold that always settles on the face turned toward the ground.
The mark slips through the stone when it is turned, slow as a bead through honey. Left beneath open sky, it traces the coastline and nearby roofs in hair-fine gold upon its downward face, then wipes them clean at dawn. Cover it with a box and the mark waits at the edge like an eye at a keyhole.
