A customs officer's seal-ring from the Brine-Cellars' drowned tax-vault, its face worn smooth of whatever crest it once certified — a small, mundane thing next to the Bonding-Ledger it used to authorize.

The Imperium built the Brine-Cellars to tax the whole mere's trade, and the mere answered by sinking it. What's left is three vaulted cellars standing waist-deep in brine-dark water, tide-reavers nesting in the old bonding-cages, and the Bonding-Ledger sitting dry enough to read in its iron box on the upper shelf — a complete accounting of what the empire confiscated through this gate. The ring is a smaller find from the same drowned office: a customs officer's own seal, the kind pressed into wax to make a bonding official. It doesn't do anything the Ledger does. It's just the last thing on the desk of someone who never got to finish the day's stamping.
