The Marrow-Hollow Shroud
A tribal grave-shirt from the cut-stone hall the Ashari shaped for their dead before they learned silence — plain, painted with the same ward-mark the sealing carries, and left on the outermost bier where a wight would let a careful hand reach it.
The Marrow-Hollow's sealing is old and deliberate: a wedge of rock, a painted mark, and the tribal understanding that the wights inside are not enemies but guards. When a Broken Lances digging crew went in on what they claimed was a real contract, the escort came out alone and the diggers did not — the wights guard, and they are not gentle about it with anyone who doesn't carry the mark. The shroud is that mark made wearable: rough-woven, painted in the same ochre ward-sign cut into the sealing stone, laid over the outermost of the tribal dead. Worn openly, it reads to the Marrow-Hollow's guardians as a kind of passage — not safety, but the difference between an intruder and a mourner.
