A treated-hide bladder and reed tube the Hessk divers swear by — strap it flat to the chest, bite the reed, and a held breath stretches further than it has any business stretching.

It is not magic and the divers who sell it will tell you so before you can ask: it's a bladder of stored air and a clever one-way reed valve, boiled leather so it doesn't collapse under pressure, and a strap that keeps it from riding up while you're swimming. It buys you time underwater, not gills. Hessk-made ones from the Underbridge waterside are the standard — a landsman's copy always leaks at the seam eventually, and eventually is the worst possible moment to learn that.
