The Assay Staff
aka the Resonance Staff, the tuning staff
A Far College staff built around a bar of temple-bronze that reads a caster's own arcana back at them and hands it back sharper — the College's ordinary teaching-tool for anyone who's learned to work Old Work salvage into spellcraft. Carried near a great fragment of the old empire, the bronze in it goes restless, which makes it both a finding-tool and a temptation.
Not a weapon so much as an assayer's instrument you can lean on: the College's reading-halls use exactly this kind of temple-bronze bar to test whether a piece of salvage still holds its old properties, and some Adept worked out that strapped to a stave and carried by a trained caster, it does the same thing to a spell — reads what you're casting and hands a sharper version of it back, the way any good instrument amplifies what you feed it. Carried near the Wright's Shard it goes restless on its own, tugging faintly toward Vallen's Barrow, which makes it both a finding-tool and a temptation. The College issues them to Adepts; the Wrights' Heirs covet them for the wrong reasons.
