ITEMS · THE MIRRENMERE
The Hollow Measure
A great caliper that closes on empty air and records a weight no hand can feel.
The jaws open wide enough for a gatepost, but their inner faces are unworn except for one deep bright line. Turn the caliper toward Caer Vallen and the jaws close by themselves until that line meets its mate. Point it anywhere else and they fall open, while a small upper needle continues to lean toward the sky.
