Rope-and-Piton Kit

A waxed coil of rope and a dozen forge-drawn iron pitons, sold as one kit at every smithy that knows Explorers pass through — the plain answer to a cliff a ladder can't reach.

Twelve pitons, a hammer-loop, forty feet of tarred rope wound tight enough to sling over a shoulder. The pitons are drawn iron, not Old Work bronze, and the smiths who make them say so proudly — bronze is for museums, iron is for climbing, and iron you can afford to lose one of when the rock is bad. Highbridge's Kiln forges turn out more of this kit than anything else they make; half the town's salvors and surveyors buy new pitons every season the way farmers buy new plough-blades.
