The Deep Bell-Piece
A bell-metal casting from whatever the Wrack-Maw swallowed before the Imperium came — a working bell that rings true at exactly the pitch the drowned-faithful shrines used, and stills the drowned faithful completely while it sounds.
It is not an Ashen Temple casting, not Imperium work, and the Hessk who can read old bronze have declined to say what they think it is. It is heavy and it is cold and it has not once been dry in living memory until you pulled it from the lair. It is, plainly, a very good bell — cast true, holding a clean low note no crack has ever spoiled, the mark of casting nobody alive can match. When you strike it the sound carries underwater exactly as it carries in air, and the drowned faithful go still and face it, because it is the same tone the old drowned-shrine bells rang for their own rites, and old habits outlast the mind that had them. The Tide-Pickers would give a season's salvage for it. So would the Listening College, separately and for different reasons.

- →The Unclosed — The Deep Bell-Piece rings true at the same pitch the drowned-faithful shrines were cast to answer; it is a pre-Imperial bell of unknown origin, and the drowned-faithful treat its ring as an ending finally spoken over their own Unclosed.
- →The Far College — The Listening College would pay well for the Deep Bell-Piece; its echo-frequency is unlike anything in their archive.
