The Saltglass Greaves

A pair of Imperium leg-plates fused into a crystallised salt casting when the Saltglass Vault's fault opened and the brine that rose there dried around them — a soldier's leg-armor turned half into gemstone, still articulated, still wearable.

The empire that built the South Road built the Saltglass Vault too, and sank it when the Sundering cracked the basin floor beneath it. In half the hall the resonators still pulse; in the other half, the fault opened, brine rose, and dried, fusing pillars and arch-frames — and one Imperium soldier's leg-plates — in crystallised salt. The greaves come free of their glassy shell with effort, the crystal falling away in sheets to reveal bronze beneath that has not corroded a day in all the centuries it spent entombed. They ring faintly, underfoot, with the same low note that still hums through the rest of the vault's salt-glass apse — the Unsealing want whatever's singing in there kept out of Listening College hands, and this piece has been singing the longest.
