Saltglass Instrument Shard
aka Saltglass Resonator Shard
A fused crystal of salt and Imperium tuning-glass from the Saltglass Vault's apse — it still rings a true note when struck near the apse's old seal-instruments, and studying it teaches something real about the tolerances the empire's engineers cut their bronze to.
The brine that flooded the Vault's fault-line during the Drawing-Down dried over centuries around a shard of the apse's tuning-glass, fusing Imperium instrument-glass and natural salt into something neither was before. Struck near one of the vault's surviving seal-instruments, it rings back at the same true pitch — plain metallurgy, the kind of sympathetic ring any two pieces cast to the same exact tolerance will give each other, nothing more mystical than a well-made bell answering its twin. The Listening College calls it evidence of Imperium precision-casting; the Unsealing calls it a key to the apse mechanism. Both are right, which is the problem.
