Sentinel's Grasp

A pair of articulated bronze gauntlets stripped from the command-altar the severed Vallen Sentinel still patrols past — Imperium war-gear, still finding the grip natural after everything else that made it a soldier stopped mattering.

The Sentinel's March is a fully-collapsed Imperium hall where a severed Sentinel automaton walks an endless patrol through roofless arcades on a loop it completes every few hours, following an order to stop that the Sundering cut off before it arrived. The gauntlets sat on the severed command-altar at the heart of its route — not the Sentinel's own hands, but a war-captain's, laid down at the altar the day the order came through and simply never picked back up. They fit a living hand as readily as an Imperium one, closing with the same unnatural, unhesitating grip that keeps the Sentinel's bronze fists from ever missing their mark. Sister Velthi wants the March's guardian ended; the College's diggers would pay double for the gauntlets alone, and have never gotten close enough to try.
