The Drowned Prayer
A barnacled reliquary from the drowned shrine, holding the last unfinished prayer of a priest who went under before anyone could shut his eyes or speak the closing words over him. Because his ending was never finished, an Unclosed presence lingers in the bronze — and it steadies a diver's nerve and stretches a held breath.
Small, sea-fused, cold until you hold it — then warm, the way a body kept close stays warm a while after the last breath. Whoever prayed here went down mid-prayer, and no one after him ever pulled the reliquary clear to finish the rite properly: no closing of the eyes, no name spoken over him, nothing latched shut. That is why something of him is still here, after a fashion — not a ghost with a grudge, just an ending that never got closed, patient and unbothered, on the edge of drowning and unafraid of it. Carry the reliquary and a little of that unbothered calm is yours: the lungs argue less, the dark water frightens less, the panic that drowns more divers than the sea does stays politely back. The Ashen Temple calls keeping it a discourtesy to the dead — an unclosed ending kept as a trinket instead of finally finished. The Tide-Pickers call it a good day's haul.
