The returning half of a vast measure, slack by day and drawn tight toward the open night sky.
A black clasp at the cut end fits the First Draw Chord without gap. Laid on stone, its knots seek the closing half of a foundation course. Under a clear night sky the whole length lifts from the ground and strains upward, though no wind stirs and nothing can be seen above it.
