Chapter 255
The Silkstrand
also called the Salt Shore, the road-blood's country
The Reshi homeland — a low, hot, dry continent south across the Longwater, all dune belts, salt flats and one inland scarp. The salt-and-silk shore the road-blood came up from, and where the far road actually begins.
The southern roads had to start somewhere, and they start here: the Silkstrand is the Reshi's own country, a low sun-hammered shore of dune belts and glittering salt flats behind a single inland scarp, hot and dry where the Rimeward is cold and sheer. The salt and the silk that gave the caravan-blood its trade come off these flats; a Reshi calls the mainland roads the long way home. Its north coast fronts the Longwater strait, and from the harbor bay a dry road runs down to the pressure-harbor of Sresh-Dar on the strait's floor, so the Silkstrand touches both the caravan world above and the drowned city below. The Wheelmoot's circuit reaches down to the salt shore; the Last Waystead back on the mainland flats keeps the milestone where the old road once thought it ended.
