Chapter 66
Saltwidow's Roost

A wreckers' hermit-perch on the north headland, a roost built from one wrecked hull, where an old wreck-picker reads the tide and the fog and sells what she knows.
The hull of a single-masted coaster forms three walls and the keel makes the ridgepole — someone had an eye for repurposing. The woman who lives in it calls herself the Saltwidow and never volunteers whether that means she is a widow of salt or a widow to it. She has seen every tide in this narrows for thirty years and has her opinions about what comes up the coves, most of which she will share for a coin and all of which she will share for two.
