The Spanstone

The single stone span crossing the Marrowgorge — an Imperium bridge-foot the Stoneborn shored up — where House Vandahl's token garrison keeps a winter toll-post, and every Vale-traveller must cross to reach the column-fields.

One arch over the slot of the Marrowgorge, wide enough for one cart. The garrison post is a leaning timber booth and a brazier that goes out more than it stays lit. The garrison is one bad month from deserting; they'll wave you across for a cut of what you lift, or shake you down for it — and either way the road north forgets their banners.
