The Wayfarer's Ledger · STRUCTURE
Chapter 65
Morel's Hold
also called the debt-hold

The Gaunt Ledger's Underbridge debt-hold — a narrow, immaculately-kept counting-room where the Lean Years' loans come due, and the one clerk in the building who still flinches when they do.
It looks like nothing: a desk, a strongbox, a wall of pigeonholed loan-slips filed so precisely you could set your watch by them. That precision is Morel Hask's, and it is the only thing in the room that is kind — a debt filed correctly is a debt that can be paid off correctly, on schedule, without the Ledger's night-half getting involved, and Morel works late making sure of exactly that for people who never thank him for it because they don't know it's happening. The Ledger keeps him because he is very good at his job. He keeps himself here because the alternative is watching from the taproom while it goes worse.
