The Emberthrone

A living fire-mountain in the south-east wilds — a lava lake burning in its crater crown, ash on every wind.

The greatest peak of the south rises alone from the open country and never sleeps: a black basalt cone whose summit is a sunken caldera holding a lake of molten rock, with vents of fire breaking out down its flanks. The drovers swear its ashfall is the heat that lies about water in the southern flats, and on a clear night its glow is seen across the water from Sresh-Dar. Nothing is built on it; nothing needs to be.
