Chapter 146

Rimeholt Landing

also called the Landing

The Korl port on the Rimeward's south-west shore, facing the Frostcrown across the water. Where the burial boats and the trade boats put in, and where the Rime crossing from the mainland makes landfall.

Rimeholt Landing is the one dressed harbor on the Rimeward's south-west shore, a stone quay and a huddle of turf-roofed longhalls under the sheer, with the Frostcrown standing off across the strait like a grave marker the whole port faces. The Korl land two kinds of cargo here — the trade the High Moot bargains up the fjord to Windcut Hold, and the honoured dead being carried out to the sacred mountain, who are keened over on the quay before the last crossing. The Rime line from the mainland's north-east coast comes in here, and boats and airships alike must reckon with the cold water and the down-pass wind. It is small on purpose; the Rimeward keeps its density up the fjord at the seat, not spread thin along the shore.
