The Cairn Road
aka the northern track, the column road
The single cart-track climbing from the Vale's northern margin to Pinewatch, crossing the Marrowgorge at the Spanstone — the only maintained way into the Rampart Foothills, beyond which only cairns and footpaths guide the traveller.
The Cairn Road was laid over an Imperium roadbed already old when the Vallen Imperium built on it; the cart-track is modern, the graded shelf beneath it is not. It was called the Cairn Road by the relic-runners who stacked the stone markers when the Imperium signs fell. The road dies at Pinewatch. Past there it is the Hum-Stone and a traveller's own judgment.
