PERSONAE · THE VALE
Hask Orn
aka Hask the Buyer
Valenfeld's smith and the town's only Old Work salvage-buyer — she'll shoe your horse and weigh your scrap temple-bronze in the same afternoon, and never asks which vault it came from.
Hask keeps a forge going for the ordinary work — shoes, hinges, mended plowshares, the odd blade — because ordinary work pays steady, and steady is what a town this size can afford. What actually turns a profit is the scale in the back corner, where she weighs whatever Old Work scrap comes in off the roads and the ruins and pays by the pound, no questions about the vault it came from and no promises about what it's worth to whoever buys it off her next. She's good at both jobs and honest about the second one only in the narrowest sense: her prices are fair, her curiosity about your business is zero, and she keeps a jar of green dust-stained rags behind the forge that she won't burn and won't explain, because she watched what the Lung did to the last man who brought her a vault-scrap job lot without washing his hands first.
