Archivist Sevenn — Archivist Sevenn

PERSONAE · THE VALE

Archivist Sevenn

The Listening College's keeper of the locked stacks — soft-spoken, exhaustively read, and the one person who knows exactly how dangerous the College's own knowledge has become.

Sevenn decides what the College does not say out loud, which makes them the quietest powerful person in the Vale. They have read every sealed page — the price of guarding them — and carry it with the calm of someone who has already imagined every way it could go wrong. They distrust Galdra's enthusiasm and the Deep Listeners' recklessness in equal measure, and they will hand a newcomer one forbidden answer if they judge the newcomer will use it well, or bury that same newcomer in the stacks if they judge wrong.

greetingThe Listening College keeps this reading-hall so the span's noise doesn't drown the work. I am Sevenn; I keep the stacks, and I decide what is safe to write down. You want to learn to hear the Sundering's leavings? It can be taught. Whether it should be is my problem, not yours.

Your first lesson is to still your own noise and tune to a small caged echo — go west to the Sunken Cut, where the old adit answers, and simply listen. Come back with what you heard. I will be watching how deep you reach; the Deep Listeners all started exactly this carefully.","business":"Still haven't done your first tuning? The Cut west of Valenfeld hums for anyone patient enough. Go and listen, Listener."}

topics{"college":"The open scholarly face of the Resonants. We learn the song the Sundering left ringing in everything — and, the radicals would say, in the end we play it. I prefer the stacks to the playing.","censors":"Some findings are too loud to publish. I bury those. Not destroy — bury. The difference matters, and it is mine to keep.","tuning":"Stilling yourself enough to hear an echo without becoming one. Taras Mournwright forgot the second half of that sentence. Mind you don't."}

This goes to the locked annex, your name goes nowhere, and the next College vote goes rather differently. You've done the reading floor a service, Listener — and made an enemy upstairs who is too proud to admit she noticed."}]}
