PERSONAE · THE NORTHERN REACH
Brother Cael of the Wandering Cups
A mendicant Stillwater monk who teaches the empty hand on the road and quietly fears he is drifting toward the Drowned's hunger.
Cael took the vow of wandering three years ago and has not found a reason to stop. He teaches anyone who shares a fire: the breathing, the setting-down, the single question that is the Stance's whole instruction. The trouble is that teaching it requires wanting to teach it, and Cael has noticed the want. He is beginning to wonder whether the road is keeping him empty or whether he is filling up again, slowly, with something the Drowned would recognize. He has not told Master Oén. He is not sure he will.
