Inya Sadran

A first-year Listener at the Highbridge reading-hall — bright, reckless, and already infatuated with the old machine the College only means to study.

Inya passed her first working at the Sunken Cut and has been impossible since: she felt the old bronze engine answer under her hands and wants to push it harder, hotter, sooner. She minds the Old Work apparatus on the pedestal and will explain it to anyone who stands still, including why it's perfectly safe right up until the precise moment it is not. Sevenn keeps a deliberate eye on her, because Inya is exactly the brilliant, eager Listener who slides from 'study it' to 'run it' without noticing the floor tilt — the College's whole danger, wearing a student's robes.
