Lethen sits at the locked stacks with a knife, a brush, and a list, and the list is the point. Every tuning the Listeners bring back is written up here; Lethen copies what may be kept, redacts what may not, and burns the rest, all on Sevenn's quiet judgement. They are a Censor by conviction, not cowardice: they have read the pages that should not exist and agree they should not. They watch newcomers the way a librarian watches a flame near the shelves — politely, and without once looking away — and will give nothing from the stacks that Sevenn has not already weighed the newcomer worthy to carry.
