The Marrow Lances' quartermaster, who keeps the oath-ledger — the book of every contract taken — and so quietly knows who has been bought.

Adda never lifts a blade; she lifts the ledger, and that is more dangerous. Every contract, every coin, every Lance who drew pay is written in her hand, and the discrepancies between what was paid and what was done are a map of the Broken Lances if anyone cares to read it. She'll show that map to someone she trusts — and she does not trust easily, because the last person who asked to see it turned up in the Vellen.
