Yeva has heard every reason a drover can invent for a short purse, and instead of getting bitter about it she started collecting the good ones: the man who blamed a curse, the woman who tried to pay in a very convincing story, the boy who offered to marry her instead. She still collects the toll — the Writ-House doesn't forgive short counts, whatever the excuse — but she'll repeat the best lines to anyone stuck waiting behind the offender, which makes the queue move faster because everyone wants to hear the punchline before their own turn.
