Factor of the Counting-Floor, the Gaunt Ledger's daylight face under the Highbridge span — a Reshi lender who prices everything, forgives strategically, and collects the debt called being-thought-well-of.

Vess runs the polite half of the Ledger's Highbridge operation: true scales, posted rates, and a book of the Vale's debts kept in a hand fine enough to frame. She lends the way the river moves stone — patiently, and with the whole landscape in mind. Within the syndicate she stands with the inland factors: own the man, not the farm; a called debt is a customer lost and a bandit gained. Calder finds her soft.
