Frost-Mother Vael

The Meltwarden who speaks for the Karth Deep in the fewest words frost allows — she believes the old engine buried at its source is failing correctly on its own, and that any hand laid on it (yours included) only wakes it and makes the failing worse.

Vael arrived at the Wardenhold a long time ago and has never explained from where. She will let you warm yourself at the fire and offer you no argument — just absolute, gentle finality at the throat of the ice. Turn her back and you go home. Convince her the thing you would take would settle the old engine rather than disturb it, and she steps aside. The faith she asks is harder than a fight.
