THE POWERS · THE VALE
The Redhook Crew
Human road-thieves of the Vale who have grown bold enough to camp in plain sight off the east road and rob carts within sight of the gate.
The commonest danger in the Vale and the least romantic: people who decided that other people's carts were easier than work. The Redhook crew are deserters, debt-jumpers, and the plain greedy, bound by nothing grander than a cut of the take. What makes them a problem rather than a nuisance is Vera Redhook, who took a hooked boarding-axe off a Tidewrack reaver, named the crew for it, and runs them with enough nerve to pitch hide tents within a morning's walk of Valenfeld and dare the watch to come. Cut off the chief and the crew is a rabble; that is the whole shape of them.
