THE POWERS · THE GREATWOOD
The Charm-Cutters
aka the Boneharvest
Bone-charm harvesters who strip the sacred Hollowing Oak of the tribes' hung charms and sell them down the river — quietly, and never twice from the same bough.
Every charm on the Oak is a name the tribes hung there; the Charm-Cutters see a year's wages swinging in the wind. They work the high boughs at night with felt-wrapped knives, take only what won't be missed until they're gone, and fence the bone through the Driftmarket as 'oakwork, provenance unasked.' The Greenwake who keep the Oak would hang the Cutters from it; the Asheni would do worse. So the Cutters keep their crew small, their faces unknown, and their best customer — the Gaunt Ledger — happy.
