THE POWERS · THE VALE
The Iron Cantors
The Sealed Choir's zealot wing — those who would seal not only the Unclosed but the living people the Unclosed have touched, for the doctrine's sake.
The Cantors took the Choir's logic one terrible step further: if an unfinished death is a wrong to be shut, then a person it has touched is a wrong who walks. They are devout, fearless, and utterly certain, and they frighten the rest of the Choir nearly as much as they frighten relic-hunters. Warden-Binder Sethe keeps them on a short leash and lies awake wondering how long it will hold. Every Choir miracle of mercy is, quietly, an argument against the Cantors.
