THE POWERS · THE RAMPART FOOTHILLS
The Coldhand Pans
aka the Pans, Brokka's crew
A hard Stoneborn quarry-clan who cut and sell foundation-stone from the lower Leaning Columns and dig out old cut stone and temple-bronze drums to fence as salvage; they winter in Greywater Hollow and reckon the Far College's diggers claim-jumpers who showed up with a writ.
A cold-frontier quarry-clan, cousins to the Deepcut Pans in the Vale but harder in temper and territory. They work the column-fields others won't, hauling out foundation-stone by the cartload and prying loose any salvageable cut block or Old Work drum left in the rock — all of it just rock and goods to sell for coin. They move the stone and the salvage through Pinewatch, pay for nothing they can dig themselves, and have held the quarry-right by squatter's grit since before the College ever surveyed the region. Their fight with the College is plain: it's over who owns the diggings and who keeps the take.

- ←The Stonewright Moot — The Coldhand Pans hold their column-field quarry by squatter's grit and won't bring their claim or their take before the Moot; the Moot reckons an unregistered, unpriced quarry a hole in the law that drags every other clan's price down.
- →The Far College — The Coldhand Pans and the Listening College contest the quarry-right to the Leaning Columns and the Coldhum Deep; the Pans hold it by presence, the College by writ.

- ←Greywater Hollow — Greywater Hollow is the Coldhand Pans' wintering steading — the settlement belongs to the clan as their only permanent roof.

- →Greywater Hollow — The Coldhand Pans hold squatter's quarry-right over Greywater Hollow and the lower column-field terraces.

- →The Deepcut Pans — The Coldhand Pans and the Deepcut Pans are cousin-clans — same Stoneborn lineage, different quarry-grounds, occasional trade of technique and tool.
- →The Finders — The Coldhand Pans sell their fallen resonators through the Finders' network rather than to the College directly — a quiet commercial alliance that keeps the College from pricing them out.

- ←Brokka Coldhand — Brokka Coldhand is the Coldhand Pans' pan-boss — unelected, unchallenged, and not interested in challengers.

- →The Stoneborn — The Coldhand Pans are Stoneborn — the magic-dull mountain folk for whom the Imperium's old machinery is dead metal rather than a compulsion, which is why they can work the column-fields safely.
- ←The Brazen Watcher — The Coldhand Pans use the Brazen Watcher as a windbreak on the work days when the terrace gale is strongest — it is their informal site shelter.
- ←The Mosswound — The Coldhand Pans pass through the Mosswound on the way to the deeper column-fields, and Brokka has standing permission from Hessa to pull the lodged engine under the column if anyone with a strong back shows up.
