The Tideraker's Almanac

aka Thresh's Tide-List, the Narrows guide

A wrecker's practical guide to the Tidewrack Narrows, kept and sold by the Beaconward — tide-times, the wreck-list, and blunt advice about which sinks will and will not give you back.

The Narrows is not a place; it is a clock. The tide is the only rule that matters and the only one that applies to everyone equally, which is the nearest thing this coast has to justice. GULL'S WATCH: safe above the tide-mark, cold below it, and the fire is not always for you. Time the spit at the ebb; a lit fire at flood means the cutter is out. TIDEWRACK SINK: Time the tide right and the censer keeps the dead polite. Misjudge and join them on the altar. GULL-THROAT CAVES: The upper gallery is dry enough. The lower throat is not. Ask yourself how certain you are before you test the difference. BRINE-CELLARS: Knee-deep and reaver-nested but the floor is flat, which is more than the tide-sinks offer. SALTSUNG BARROW: I do not go into the Saltsung Barrow and I will refund twice what you paid me if you find me a person who does. THE WRACK-MAW: See the note on the Saltsung Barrow and add depth. Wait for the great spring slack and the Drowned Censer, and still probably don't. Useful note: the Drowned Bell counts the flood on its own. When you hear nine strokes of the slack bell you have already run out of time. This almanac was compiled by C. Thresh, Beaconward, Gull's Watch, Tidewrack Narrows, and is sold without warranty of any kind.
