BESTIARY · THE GREATWOOD
Drowned Warden
The cold thing that keeps the Drowned Larach's nave — a Greenwake warden who walked into the shrine when the bog was rising and did not come back up, preserved and watchful in the drowned dark.
The Greenwake sealed the western wood's edge against it, not because it is hostile to the living wood, but because it has stopped being of the living wood. It holds the shrine's altar the way it held its watch in life — patiently, correctly — but the air you bring when you surface in the nave registers as intrusion, and an intrusion gets the same answer it always did. Cold. Still. Final. It does not pursue above the water line. It does not need to.
