The Asheni house that keeps the ash-fires banked and fed on schedule, not thrown wide — the settled counterweight to the Covenant's zealotry, and the surest seat on the Ashen Moot.

Where the Ash Covenant burns everything it can drag to the pyres, House Ashwake tends the old hearth-fires the proper way: banked at dusk, fed at dawn, never let to run wild. Three generations of Ashwake elders have sat the Ashen Moot's council of House elders, arbitrating forge-rights and lineage-claims the Covenant's schismatics walked away from a generation back. The house's wealth is unglamorous — banked embers sold to every hearth in the Wastes that can't keep its own fire through a bad night — but it is real, and it does not run out.
